Bryan Fuller has just posted on his Twitter the above photo: our first sneak peek of the upcoming “Pushing Daisies” comic! This is just the first page. Also, keep in mind that it is an uncolored preview (although I’m liking the black and white, myself). The comic is currently seeking a new distribution, after their previous publishing company at DC folded. Hopefully we’ll see a publication date soon.

Edit: The colored page has now been posted. Enjoy!

A Look at “Behind The Music” from WonderCon

Last week, Bryan Fuller moderated a panel at WonderCon which focused on the use of music in television shows. Guests on the panel included Nathan Barr (“True Blood”), Jim Dooley (“Pushing Daisies”), Scott Starrett (“The Event”), Marco Beltrami (“V”), Michael Suby (“The Vampire Diaries”), and Sean Callery (“24″). The TV Addict was kind enough to summarize the panel, which you can read an excerpt of below:

Bryan Fuller noted that one of the reasons he loves sci-fi music is because it allows going places outside our normal reality. It allows for the use of instruments that would normally not be used.

Nathan Barr agreed and said that for TRUE BLOOD he wanted to steer clear of the typical Southern sound and tried to incorporate instead more around-the-world sounds. He even uses a “human bone” trumpet from Tibet which creates a weird resonance which is used on the show.

Jim Dooley shared that for PUSHING DAISIES each episode paid homage to an earlier film or television work and it was fun to use the DAISIES lens on those sounds and music.

Mike Suby said that for THE VAMPIRE DIARIES one of the techniques he likes to employ is using normal instruments, but then ringing or stretching each sound until it is dead or unrecognizable. When sounds that one normally hears are stretched to nearly breaking, they are no longer recognizable and thus more interesting.

Sean Callery added that for 24, there were so many deaths on the show that they liked to use subliminal subtexts through music — to get underneath what was going on and invoke an emotional response. He also noted that each character had their own musical theme, which helped weave the multitude of characters into the story over the course of an entire season.

When asked who were their musical inspirations, each replied:
- For Scott, it was John Adams.
- For Marco, it was Bernard Hermann.
- For Nathan, it was Bach.
- For Sean, it was John Williams work in Star Wars.
- For Mike, it was Alice in Chains.

Bryan Fuller Gives an Update on “The Munsters”

AssignmentX has released another short interview featuring Bryan Fuller, this time about the in development reboot of “The Munsters” (currently being scripted for NBC). Also mentioned is another project Bryan is working on: a comedic thriller on reincarnation. I love the sound of it already!

Bryan Fuller is best known as the creator of such interesting and iconic televisions series such as WONDERFALLS and PUSHING DAISIES and why he may have left the small screen for a while, he’s coming back.

Fuller took some time off his busy WonderCon 2011 schedule to talk with ASSIGNMENT X briefly about his many irons in the fire.

“I am very excited about getting back into television as I have spent that last year writing two movies,” Fuller says.

The first film is a live action version of the classic PINOCCHIO for Warner Bros. “It is a big, live action version of the film,” he says.

The second is a subject maybe more close to Fuller’s heart in comedic thriller on reincarnation. “After I finish PINOCCHIO, I have three weeks on [his new comedic thriller] and then I begin writing THE MUNSTERS for NBC.”

Is that something that is official on the schedule at some point?

“No, it is literally just a script at this point,” Fuller says. “I wrote a script and there was a regime change at NBC. As soon as they are done with the current state of pilots, I will be getting notes on writing it from them.”

“I would love to do a Pushing Daisies mini-series,” Bryan Fuller Says

Bryan Fuller made an appearance at WonderCon in San Francisco today. (BFO’s webmaster actually got a chance to meet him and tell him about the site. If you’re reading this: Hi, Bryan!) There, he was interviewed by AssignmentX and talked a little bit about fan favorites, “Heroes” and “Pushing Daisies.”

Bryan Fuller was both a co-executive producer and consulting producer for NBC’s HEROES during its run before moving to PUSHING DAISIES on ABC and then briefly returning to HEROES for its final year.

So does he hear about anything happening with the series either movies or otherwise?

“Nothing,” Fuller says. “I wouldn’t be surprised if they waited for a while and then they reinvented it entirely. There have been two regime changes at NBC since HEROES came out and neither of those had a vested interest in the show. I can’t imagine they would go back into the vault, but in five years, they could re-invent the premise.”

Bryan Fuller’s baby PUSHING DAISIES only lasted two seasons on ABC and one could argue at the treatment it received during that second season. However, he isn’t saying goodbye just yet and would love to have it appear on another network at some point.

“I am really emboldened by what Starz is doing with TORCHWOOD and I would love to do a PUSHING DAISIES mini-series on Starz,” Fuller says. “This would be a great way to wrap up the show properly. [We could] do six great episodes or even a PUSHING DAISIES movie. But I kind of like the idea of a Starz mini-series since they really embraced TORCHWOOD.”
